Shopping in Leeuwarden
The historic centre of Leeuwarden is a great place to shop. The Nieuwestad is the main street of the city centre and is divided by one of Leeuwarden’s many canals. On the Nieuwestad, adjacent to the streets of Wirdumerdijk and Ruiterskwartier, you will find all of the well-known chain stores. In the Zaailand shopping centre, you can shop till you drop in the various and diverse modern furniture shops, pop-up stores and boutiques. Shopping in Leeuwarden, European Capital of Culture 2018, is definitely recommended!
Numerous smaller shopping streets lead to the Nieuwestad and the many surprising boutiques, galleries and specialty shops offering local delicacies won’t fail to impress. The Kleine Kerkstraat is a good example and well worth a visit this street has been voted the ‘best shopping street of the Netherlands’ several times!
The most surprising shops can be found in the smallest streets
When shopping in Leeuwarden, you should definitely visit the Nauw, the St. Jacobsstraat and Oosterstraten. Throughout the centre you will find a multitude of nice cafes and restaurants where you can refuel, so make sure to take your time!
